TWIS #15

This week in science we did the marshmallow challenge. We got into our groups from the beginning of the year and did it again but we had to do it silent. Then after that we did it over again and we could communicate this time.  What we also did this week in science was we did our video blog post. We went up on the roof and separated then recorded it. It was talking about what did I like this year in science the most, did I think science got more interesting to me and we introduced ourself to our new science teachers for next year.

This week in science I learned that things are harder when you can't talk and have to work in a group. Also when you communicate better with people in your group when you could talk and understand each other better. Im working in groups better now because I know everyone well and we get along good. I like working in groups because it helps me get what I have to do more and people in my group helps me out a lot.

extra credit TWIS #14

This week in science we worked on our spider observation log. We watched a video about the starling bird. We also worked on questions about it. We also worked on what hippo means in our spider observation log. We also came to class and answered questions which was practice regents. We also got to catch up on make up work so our grades could get all our ponts before the semester ends.

This week in science we learned about HIPPO. The H stands for habitat loss, I Introduced Species, P Pollution, P Population Growth & O Over-Comsumption. We also learned what biodiversity was, That is the variety of life.

TWIS #13

If we were to add five more spiders to your spider habitat tank, what would happen? And why? Use these terms in your explanation: glucose, photosynthesis, energy, carbon dioxide, oxygen.

If we was to add more spiders to the habitat tank 3 or 4 of them would die. I think that because there would not be enough oxygen for them. Also because there would not be enough carbon dioxide for each or them. Since photosynthesis is green plants and other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water the spiders wont get enough and they would end up dying.

TWIS #12

This week in science what I did was make booklets for our spider habitats. We had to decorate the cover and make look something like a spider habitat or have something t do with spiders. Something else we did  was answer questions from last year regents so we could practice for the test we took. We learned new bigger words that was going to be on the test were taking at the end of the year.

This week  I learned new words which are: abiotic, heterotroph, energy pyramid, autotroph etc. I also learned what animals were decomposer, carnivores, producers, herbivores, consumers. I also learned that mushrooms are heterotrophs because it can obtain nutrients from its enviornment. A heterotroph is a organism that doesn't make its own food. Abiotic is non-living, biotic is living and a energy pyramid represents how energy moves through the levels of the ecosystem.

TWIS #11

This week in science what we did was go around the room writing what we know about ecosystems, photosynthesis, water cycle and more. We also went to the park to get sticks and leaves and stuff for the spider habitat. We took pictures of things that we thought was important to the park then we looked around. We dug in the dirt for worms and other insects so we could put it in our spider habitat. Then after that we fixed up our habitat. The pictures i took at the park i used them to put it on our document, i then wrote the name of the picture, who the photographer was, what day it was taken and a little bit about the picture (what was in it and how its important to the park.)

This week in science i learned that the water cycle has more than 2 cycles. I also learned what photosynthesis was and what the carbon cycle was. Somethings i learned when i went to the park was that theres a lot of worms and other bugs all the way at the bottom of the dirt. Also that there's a lot of flowers and sticks etc. Also when i was there i saw that there was a lot of squirrels and pigeons to make the park look more better and fun to be.

This month in Science #10

This month in science we split the class into 4 groups which was Energy, Waste, Water and Transportation. We came up with questions so we could go out in the neighborhood and survey people. The questions was based on the 4 groups we was. Then after that we took our own surveys about the topic we was doing. We tested electronics to see how much energy it takes up then we saw which ones took up more energy which was the alarm clock. We came up with multiple slogans for our t-shirt designs and then finally got our final slogan. We then came up with a few designs for our shirts. We got our final design and drew it on big paper so we could soon put them on t-shirts.

This month in science i learned that its not really easy to work in a group with a lot of other people who have different ideas. It was hard because everyone had different but creative ideas and we didn't know how to put them all in one but we finally did it. I also learned what quantitive and qualitive questions are. A quantitive question is a question that can be added and has an amount of numbers. A qualtive  question is like a yes or no question it can't be added and it doesn't have numbers.

Human Impact Ad Campaign

This shows a charger plugged into an out lit but nothing is charging. The out lit is crying because energy is being used. I chose this one because you can't waste energy it affects the world. The plug is also saying unplug me please because the longer is stays plugged into the out lit the hotter it gets.

This week in Science #9

Paragraph 1: What I DID
This week in science what we did was get into groups and we chose 2 animals to dissect out of 4. There was a skate, a frog, a mouse & a perch. I got a frog and a mouse and 2 people in my group did a mouse and the other 2 did a frog. First we took pictures of the frog ( the ventral, dorsal, and side view ) then we examined it. After that i drew the ventral and the dorsal part of the frog. The next day we got all of our supplies to begin to dissect the animal. We first took off all the skin  then took the scissors and cut  it down the middle so we could see all the inside intestines. Me and my partner then found the heart lungs and all the inside fat.

Paragraph 2: What I LEARNED
This week in science I learned all about frogs and what was inside them. I learned all about the different body parts. I also learned what these words mean pharnyx, anus, cloaca, spleen and a few more. Some more things i learned was that it's really easy and cool to dissect a frog. It's different but easy to find all the body parts you ned to because they're all together.

Paragraph 3: Structures and Functions - In this extra paragraph, we want you to compare and contrast the forms and functions of yours and your table mates' organisms.
The mouse and the frog are 2 different animals. The mouse had fur and it really small. The frog is really big and slimy. Both the mouse and the frog was boys and you saw its boy parts in the body. The lungs of the frog was like little worms and they was all stuck together. The lungs of the mouse was really small and a tan color. The frogs lungs was way bigger than mouses lungs.

What two organisms were dissected at your table.
  A Frog and A Mouse
List at least 3 structures that appeared similar on your pair of organisms.
  The heart, Lungs, body Fat
List  1 structure that has the same function on both organisms but appears very different.
  The whole body

This week in science #8

What we did this week in science was disect a grasshopper and a crayfish. I also got to disect a worm. We go into groups of 4 and 2 people in the group got one animal. We drew the different parts of the animal then took pictures of it. After that the people in the group started disecting the animals.
This week in science i learned about different animals and how to disect them. I learned what proximal, dorsal etc.. means. I also learned about the different types of tools to use so you can disect the animal. Another thing i learned was that  the smell of the dead animals really stink.
